Waunakee Light the Night Parade

Join us for a festive evening at the Waunakee Light the Night Parade on Friday, December 1, running from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m.

We invite local businesses, neighborhoods, student groups, and service clubs to participate in the parade at no cost. To make the event truly spectacular, we request that your parade entry incorporate lights and holiday music, embracing the season’s festive spirit.

guidelines for participation

All parade entries and walking units must be illuminated. For walkers, we recommend LED necklaces, bracelets, or light strings. You can also use multiple glow sticks per person. Flashing reflector lights attached to clothing and battery-operated light packs are practical options, but please bring extra batteries as they tend to deplete quickly in cold weather.

We strongly encourage you to include music in your parade entry. Note that a boom box won’t suffice; you’ll need additional amplified speakers for your music.

The official Santa Claus will be the final entry in the parade so that no other float may feature Santa Claus or anything related to him.

Safety Precautions

For safety reasons, throwing candy from any vehicle is strictly prohibited. We recommend having walkers alongside your float to distribute candy, coupons, or flyers.

Political or advocacy propaganda is not allowed in the parade.

Alcohol is not permitted in or on any float.

The parade route will follow O’Malley Street, proceeding down Main Street and ending at Village Park through the Rotary of Lights. The duration of the parade will depend on the number of entries received.

After the Parade

After the parade, the celebration continues with caroling at the Creche, delicious cookies, and hot apple cider. You can also enjoy activities such as a model train set, kid-friendly entertainment, and fresh popcorn at the Depot. Some local businesses will have extended hours and special promotions.
