Best Parks in Waunakee

Castle Creek Conservancy

West of Six Mile Creek, Castle Creek Conservancy is about 11-acres of upland and 36-acres of wetland. Managed mainly as a nature preserve, Castle Creek offers a 1.3 walking path for park-goers.

The loop takes approximately 28 minutes from start to finish and is graded as a moderately challenging route. While there isn’t a parking lot, off-street parking is available; please be courteous and do not block anyone’s driveway.

Village Park

Located on the east side of downtown Waunakee, Village Park is accessible from Highway 19, Interstates 90/94, and State Highway 19/113. The 14.29-acre community park is ADA accessible and provides a baseball/softball field, basketball court, 15 electrical outlets, 23 picnic tables, restrooms, and shelter.

Additionally, visitors enjoy:

  1. Convenient parking with the on-site lot
  2. Access to the main shelter’s water fountain
  3. Garbage cans (so you don’t have to pack your trash)

Ripp Park

Ripp Park stretches 87.2-acres, making it one of the largest and best parks in Waunakee. Visitors can enjoy the youth soccer fields (with goals), batting cages, nine tennis courts equipped with lights, and a pet exercise area.

Likewise, the park is packed with three baseball/softball diamonds (including team benches, scoreboards, and metal bleachers), two playgrounds, and walking trails.

Schumacher Farm Park

Henry Schumacher built the farmhouse and barn in 1908. Marcella Schumacher Pendall, the only child of Henry Schumacher, gifted the 40-acre farmstead to the Dane County Parks Commission in 1978.

Schumacher Farm Park has trails winding through 10-acres of restored hilltop prairie overlooking Waunakee. Park visitors enjoy a gorgeous view of the State Capitol Building from the restored prairie all year long.

Dive deep into the history of the Schumacher Farm and see what life was like during the 1920s and 1930s. Check their calendar for workshops and classes.

Additionally, mark your calendar for the June Music Festival, Heritage Fest, and Halloween on the Farm!

Augusta Park

Augusta Park has an expansive green field for kids to play pick-up soccer, football, and baseball games. The playground and swing set have woodchips to offer soft ground for frolicking and play. The neighborhood park is a safe place for children to socialize, making it one of the best parks in Waunakee.

Water Tower Park

Located on the corner of East Verleen Avenue and North Division Street, Randy Hillebrand says Water Tower Park is a “well-groomed small park on a hilltop which overlooks a portion of Waunakee.” Carol Feidt states it is a “fun walk and awesome views.”

The playground features three slides, a jungle gym, and swings. This quiet neighborhood park is an excellent place for your child to play.
